Specific Purpose

There are two things that I am working on now in an effort to raise money for a study abroad opportunity with the Midwifery school that I have chosen.  This coursework will require travel to Indonesia where I will spend several weeks working with other midwives.

I am a certified iCracked iTech, trained to repair cell phones and tablets (iPhones, iPads, iPods, and Samsung devices).  Also I have an Etsy store.

Please stay in touch and thanks.

Artists Hold the Key

To many things.

Over the years I have not been shy about expressing my convictions in regard to creatives.

The time spent at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago were some of the best years of my life.  A sacred sanctuary it was.

After careful consideration....(there are so many important things in the world) I have decided to make SAIC a philanthropic endeavor in regard to anything that I do as an entrepreneur.

In this, it is my desire to give back to my favorite institution in the world.  To my alma mater... thank you for the memories.  I love you always!

Proverbs 18

One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin,
But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

Should I Fix It?

We've all done it.  It happens in an instant.

Mine was new when I did it.  Replacement was not the obvious solution.

But wait!  Maybe someone will be able to fix it.  And as I scrolled and searched
for a service provider, it occurred to me - I WASN'T ALONE.

The perfect solution was introduced to me in a matter of moments.

Travel, self-employment through technology, and remaining
an artist, all in one broken piece of glass.

Let the adventure begin.  #icracked.com

Inspirational Speak in Stitching

Today I'm contemplating further surface exploration on the Flower Girl Field Bag.  Don't know about you but seeing what other artists do is usually a great inspiration..not in a ~ I am going to copy your work ~ kind of way, but it sets me in motion.  Sometimes I spend hours in this process and have grown to allow myself the time to contemplate ~ as though it is part of the creative process ~ and it is.

In my life, one of the greatest joys is experiencing what other creatives do, how they do it, maybe even who they are.

When it comes to surface embellishment I am time and again drawn to the work of Japanese textile artist Junko Oki.  In her work there is a delicacy that I yearn for in my own stitching.  Her work is simple, yet it is complicated.  The stitches are brief but when they congregate and populate they become a collection of thin, short, delicate lines nesting together in mass.  They're free and barely organized and beautiful in their simplicity.

Flower Girl Field Bag

A peak at the new Flower Girl field bag.  There will be embroidery added to it.

Easy Street Vintage

Today, my vintage site on Etsy took on a new owner.  My daughter is getting married and this is meant to help her with that and her new life.  You may remember her because she was my regular model for a couple of years.

We're very happy for her and I'm glad to let it go so that I have time for other endeavors.  Stop by and take a peak at The Street if you have a chance.

There's something about Mary

The Photo Book Club

Someone recently told me that they don't think Photography books matter. Sadly, the commentary revealed that some believe that images are without value or importance. I'm not sure if comparing the written word and pictures or art images can create a valid argument so I will bypass that entirely. The goodness about it is that there is an organization called THE PHOTO BOOK CLUB. On their website there is a posting that includes an announcement celebrating the upcoming PHOTO BOOK DAY. For any of you are interested in picture books take a peek. And if you're an image person as I am, enjoy! http://photobookclub.org/

Magic Beans

To be honest, I don't think a tarot card reader could have predicted that I would live in New Orleans someday.  As it turns out, I do.  Nothing, including the sweltering hot days of August and September, could make me believe that night in the French Quarter is something that I would not want to experience time and again and with the iPhone.

I do not seek perfection in photos ~ they are a diary ~ not just mine..they belong to everyone who loves New Orleans.
